Reviews
I was so impressed by the outstanding service I received at Drummers Dream & Dream Music, Will is a wonderful human being and spent the time sharing his expertise to make me feel like a valued customer. I understand that the sheer number of kits out on display in the store is literally the most of any store in the world; in addition to this, the 'other instruments' section is awesome, with outstanding services provided such as guitar setups and expert advice. This business has earned my highest recommendation.
I am a new customer to Drummers Dream and generally a difficult one to please. I have expectations of professionalism as a business owner and employer, engaged business to business as a commercial consumer, and also dealing with the retail public. Knowing I can be hard to please, I had to remind myself the music industry, historically, has been staffed by artistic people, not customer service specialists, so I need to be a little gracious with their temperament and sensitivities.
Having said all that, my recent purchases from DD was a Yamaha HexRack II system which was a long held dream to own and opportunity to add some new pieces into my kit without cluttering the surrounding floor space with a forest of stands so dense I would need to be airlifted in.
Online purchase was easy and the order response was quick. The problem came when Yamaha misadvised available inventory and DD discovered part of the system was unavailable, which happened to be the most essential part. DD advised me of the delay and offered to refund my payment, or supply in part and backorder the balance, or hold all until stock arrived. I requested them to send what was available and supply the backorder when in stock.
The time frame was unknown because Yamaha could not interpret their own shipment schedules or stock allocation. I waited several weeks and even called Yamaha, with no answer. I emailed Yamaha and got a very prompt response from Jamie asking for info which I provided, but then no follow up... at all.
After a few weeks I called DD and at the risk of becoming that painful customer everyone dreads, I pressed for an update. They told me the side racks had just arrived and were sending that same day, but the front rack could be 4 months. I received the side racks in less than a week... awesome considering the week before Christmas.
I called on arrival to thank the team and they informed me that they had success in escalating my order with Yamaha and it had just come in and would leave same day... last trading day before Christmas. It arrived today, on the first trading day of the New Year. Great job Sav & DD.
I love Yamaha and have loyally used them for 35 years. I am not professional, but I am a brand snob and don't hybridise gear. As such, I pay a premium for what I use and take great pride in it.
I would love to see Yamaha improve their performance for supply to local distributors who support them so that musicians who enjoy quality can access their preferred product. The international supply issues that legitimately emerged during the pandemic are no longer a valid excuse for delay. Many organisations became too comfortable with blaming commercial interruptions on the pandemic expecting customers would accept it and now assume they continue to accept their complacency as the new norm. That is a fatal conclusion which will be the peril of any business.
My review is for two reasons.
Firstly, to say a great word of thanks and appreciation to Sav and Will at DD for their exceptional effort... exceptional. Sav must have been close to his limit of frustration with my persistence but he was always polite and professional and got the result. It looks like the music industry has evolved from the artsy types looking to supplement a struggling music career, to professional staff who know their products and customer needs, at least that is what you will find at Drummers Dream. Great job guys.
Secondly, I want to give Yamaha a kick up the backside for having the best gear in the business, but the worst focus on the user. They need to elevate standards or distributors will avoid them and promote other brands making it harder for users to source, and the competition will erase them. Pandemic is over, time to get back to business.
I was so impressed with Sav and DD, I have just ordered new Remo batter heads (x10) to extend the fresh appeal. Drummers Dream were not the cheapest option but they negotiate, give great service, and want your business. Ask for Sav… he da man.
They've usually been good to me in the past but my most recent visit was a very negative one. I had 4 used guitars in good condition that I asked to trade in. Their website screams "WE DO TRADE INS!" I talked to them on the phone and said what guitars they were and described each condition to them and they said bring them in. There was nothing really wrong with them, one just needed a re-string. I cleaned them up before we went over. We drove over, struggled to bring in all 4 and they set them up on some really cheap looking equipment in the store with a cable that kept on cracking (Mine never did this, as I use good quality cables). They said all seems fine. Let's ask the boss if he wants them. They came back almost within an instant to say the boss doesn't want them. I was furious, and frustrated that we brought all the guitars in several KMs away for no reason. I was also told that they "weren't a cash converters" (despite them saying they accepted trade ins supposedly) and they always had issues dealing with 2nd hand items. Well maybe they shouldn't advertise that they do trade ins if they are so picky with what to accept. I had a lovely blue Fender Squire Strat that they said would never sell, well that was the first one that was sold on Gumtree.
In the end, I had better luck selling 2 of the 4 guitars on Gumtree, and donating the other 2 to a friend's Music school. It's a shame, as the staff here are great, but I don't like the management as there seemed to be a miscommunication with them and because of it the situation was handled very poorly on their end, but thankfully I succeded elsewhere. So in the end, a win for me.
Be very careful if you are considering doing tradeins with these guys, it's just not worth it. Use Gumtree instead. Otherwise they are good for getting in new stock.
Last two orders made with them, money taken and then nothing
No shipping info, nothing delivered and then no response to enquiries
No point supporting local businesses if they can’t provide a basic service and things ordered for upcoming shows don’t even arrive well after the fact
They poorly hand write deliveries being sent out. My package was lost... because their post code writing was unreadable. Drummer nightmare contacted me to actually blame Aust Post, but Aus Post found the problem was the sender's fault (hand writing). Drummer dream have not responded to my many attempted emails - bad business model.
Literally the worst customer service experience I have ever had. The employees working in the guitar section are extremely disrespectful and show no interest in actually assisting any customers. I have gone back on multiple occasions to see if they have changed as this is my local store however it seems as though this is a company culture issue as all of their staff have the same attitude problem.
This is certainly the place to go in Sydney for all your drum needs. The guitar and amp section is extensive too. These guys have what you need and if by chance they don’t they will find it. I had a great experience today- no pressure sales, just a friendly helping hand. Good parking out the back. If you can’t make it they have a fast inline service too. Recommended
Despite all the positive reviews, my experience hasn't been positive. I purchased drumsticks on 13/3, and was emailed on 23/3 asking me to pay $10 delivery (it was free delivery on check out), which I did. As of 9/4 I still have not received the drumsticks. I am sure they are amazing in person, but their online store experience has not been good!
